About American University in Afghanistan:
On 6 November 2003 The Afghan Cabinet’s High Commission for Private Investment approved, and President Karzai issued a decree donating 42 acres of prime land in Kabul (99 Yr. Lease) for the purposes of establishing the American University of Afghanistan. (AUAF). This land is conservatively valued at $28 million and was donated to the University on recognition of America’s ongoing support for Afghanistan. Moreover, the University’s anticipated establishment served as one of the major factors in enshrining in Afghan’s new Constitution the right of private Universities to operate for the first time in history. The new University will address critical shortages in Afghan’s stock of high level, skilled manpower that are not well met by existing higher education institutions. The English language, co-educational, market-oriented curriculum will educated a liberal arts core and lead initially to degrees with majors in business management, information technology, English and public administration that will support the re-entry of Afghanistan to the global economy. The University will provide leadership training for public and private education sector managers. Students will pay normally be responsible for tuition, fees although aid programs will help academically qualified, financially needy students. Female students will be specially targeted to provide them scholarship support. The American University of Afghanistan has had its first Board of Trustees Meeting in Dubai on December 12th, at which time a President pro tem was appointed to serve as a senior executive officer to first establish his staff and then to proceed with University start-up functions in accordance with the Bylaws as introduced and accepted at the meeting in Dubai.

Dear Mr. Hamid Karzai, the president of the Republic of Afghanistan, and Dear Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, the Embassador of USA in Afghanistan, and Dear representative of American President and Dear Ministers of the Republic of Afghanistan, and Dear members of Board of Trustees of American University in Afghanistan (AUAF), As a Chairman of AUAF, I would like to welcome all of You and wish You Happy New Year! Dear Hamid Karzai, the leader of Afghan people, Every day hundreds of people were dying, and every day hundreds of mothers, sisters, wives, children were crying, loosing someone from their families. And everything this country ever had, was destroyed. And Afghanistan was completely destroyed. And all schools and education institutes were destroyed. But there have been people born and grown up during that time who devoted their lives for their country and their people. One of these people, Dear Mr. Hamid Karzai, is You. The country and the people of the country are proud of You. Dear Leader, We are very proud of You, that during this terrible time you have become a leader of that country, which were near to be dead and divided. You have brought to this country Peace, Harmony, Law, Investments, Education, Business and Justice. And also for other sectors you have made big changes, which no citizen of the country will forget. I ask God best health and success for You. Today, when you put a first stone for the AUAF, is your next step for the establishment of the education in the country. Dear Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, American embassador in Afghanistan, I would like to remind you, that during last year when you participated in two conferences for Afghan businessmen in Dubai, UAE, we all Afghan businessmen in one voice told You, that we know You, as one of us, Afghan people. And we all citizens of the country are proud of You. Dear Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, You have made a huge impact during these two conferences for the establishment of AUAF. And on December 2004 by your initiative there was a first meeting of Board of Trustees of AUAF which You organized and participated personally in Dubai. And today You see by your own eyes the result of your work. And today You and our President Hamid Karzai put a first stone of the AUAF. I ask God best health and success for You. Dear President of Afghanistan, As an Afghan businessman, I would like to tell You, that all businessmen of that country, even if they are abroad, are with You every step You do, we are proud of You.
